WEEK 16 BREAKDOWN!

Going to be brief with each game pick this week.  After going 11-4 for a second week your 'tender Goldy is feeling pretty good.  Let me know what you think....

Broncos at Bills

Tebow returns to form against lowly Bills.  Ryan Fitzpattrick may be praying for an injury from the Broncos Pass rush so he can get away... Broncos---20 Bills---10

Cardinals at Bengals

Bengals are scratching and clawing to get in to final Wild Card spot.  Not going to happen this week...Cardinals---24 Bengals---20

Jags at Titans

Titans are still in the Wild Card hunt and the Jags are TERRIBLE.  Blaine Gabbert looks like a wasted pick right now, but if the Colts keep winning Luck could be in J-ville.  Jags---6 Titans---17

Raiders at Chiefs

Romeo Crennel learned alot coaching in Cleveland, and now he is ready to make his mark for next year with KC.  These players played for him last week and Da RRRAAAiders are falling apart at the seams...Raiders---13 Chiefs---20

Dolphins at Pats

The Patriots are 25-3 in December under Tammy Brady...Al 3 losses are to the Dolphins.  This one is in Foxboro though, but Reggie Bush has found a groove and NE run D is flat out pathetic. First Shocker...Dolphins---27 Pats---20

Giants at Jets

The Giants got embarrassed by the Deadskins and lost the NFC East lead last week.  The Jets are not peaking in December like previous years...in fact they are getting worse.  Giants---20 Jets---6

Rams at Steelers

Even without Big Ben the Steelers are playing the lowly Rams and with a real shot at getting Luck now dont expect them to be any better.....Steelers---24 Rams---3

Vikings at Redskins

Shocker number 2 coming.  The Vikings suck but the inconsistent Redskins have proven they lose these games all year.  Welcome back bad Rex...Vikings---14 Redskins---13

Bucs at Panthers

Cam Newton will show Josh Freeman he is the new young NFC South QB everyone should watch.  Bucs---13 Panthers---27

Browns at Ravens

I feel bad for the Browns this week.  An angry Raves team looking to make a staement, that rushed for over 300 yds last meeting, and sacked Colt 7 times.  Browns---7 Ravens---34

Chargers at Lions

Norv's job ends this week in a shootout  Stafford gets Kevin Smith and Suh back...Chargers---27 Lions---37

Eagles at Cowboys

Mark my words.  The Eagles will make the playoffs, and this is the next step....Eagles---24 Cowboys---20

49ers at Seahawks

Beastmode ends the Rushing TD streak the niners D has going and the improbable Seahawks run gets shocker number 3....49ers---17 Seahawks---20

NFL TOP 5 IN EACH CONFERENCE....

Tonight as da bar opens we look to discuss who you think are the top 5 teams in each NFL conference.  I have listed mine below and I think you may be slightly surprised.

HERE WE GOOO.....

NFC

1. New Orleans Saints:  Drew Brees is playing almost as good as Aaron Rodgers and has some better stats.  The key difference though is the Saints Defense.  They are playing outstanding right now and Greg Williams has done a very good job getting the D to create turnovers and that separates them from the Pack...
2.  Green Bay Packers:  Aaron Rodgers is still playing some of the best football anyone of us has seen.  That Defense is suspect though and now with a depleted O-line they will have a hard time protecting their greatest asset.
3. San Francisco 49ers:  After dismantling the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football the niners showed the whole league they may actually be for real...it is going to be tough on anyone to beat that defense..
4.  Dallas Cowboys:  Tony Romo is playing at an elite level and now everyone is wondering...When does the real Tony Romo show up? If Felix Jones can stay healthy this is the NFC team to watch.
5.  Detroit Lions:  Matthew Staffords finger is healthy and they are getting Kevin Smith back.  The boy named Suh needs to behave and return to his '10 dominance if they want to go anywhere.  They can score with anyone but in the end their much improved D needs Suh to be the star he most certainly is.

AFC

1.  Baltimore Ravens:  They are still try most balanced and potent team when clicking on all cylinders.  Their issue now is to learn how to handle success better and be consistent.  That's what the cornerstone organizations in the AFC (Pats and Steelers) do better than them currently.  With Ray Rice and that Defense, if the Ravens can hold on to home field they will be very tough to beat.
2.  Pittsburgh Steelers:  Yes they got beat bad Monday night but again, balance is key.  With a healthy Big Ben ( which he will be after the cush end of the season schedule) the Steelers are as fierce as they are every year.  With James Harrison returning and Antonio Brown/Mike Wallace forming white the offensive duo, the Steelers could be marching to Indy with the right breaks.
3.  New England Patriots:  Tammy Brady is in the zone, but unfortunately the Pats D is horrendous.  They can't stop anyone on Defense and if they run in to a team whose offense can keep Tammy off the field they don't stand a chance.
4.  Houston Texans:  With Andre Johnson back healthy this team would be ranked number 1 if Schaub were at QB.  Tyler Yates isn't going to lead them to a deep playoff run.  They will need to step away from their typical air assault and let Arian Foster and Ben Tate carry the load.  Their defense is much improved and playing pretty well.
5.  Denver Broncos:  There was no way to go through this with out mentioning Tebow...They are a legitimate playoff team just not one that will go deep.  The defense is strong but against a top rated offense, the Broncos and Tebow just can't keep up.

What do you think?  Who do rank where?  Lets hear it barmates....

Bring your friends...let them know about our place here..

NBA SEASON KICKS OFF WITH BIG CHRISTMAS DAY!!!

Well barmates the NBA returns in a BIG way on Christmas day with a quintuple header for the ages.  The lockout and papa Sterns "trade gate" are over, preseason games have started and FINALLY an NBA regular season that might actually matter.  The shorter 62 game season should be something that the NBA should seriously consider. 82 games is way too many games and really makes the regular season pointless.  So tonight I am going to give you my picks for day one.......
Boston Celtics @ New York Knicks
The "original" big 3 are old.  Kevin Garnett is still their key and has to stay healthy for them to succeed.  The Knicks made tremendous strides last year adding Melo and Stoudemire, but by adding Bibby and Tyson Chandler they got a WHOLE LOT better.  A front court of Stoudemire, Chandler and Melo is faster and more athletic right now than the Celtics Garnett, O'neal and pierce.  The beginning of the Knicks being relevant begins Christmas day...Knicks win
Miami Heat @ Dallas Mavericks
The finals rematch of Dallas and Miami will be very interesting.  LBJ, D-WADE and Baby Bosh will have to stand and watch Mark Cuban raise his Mavericks Championship banner.  The difference I thought was missing Tyson Chandler, but with Lamar Odom and Vince Carter in the mix, Dirk and the boys may make another run defending their titles.  The NBA's version of the Evil Empire, Miami Heat, are ready to prove everyone wrong and that last year was just a sneak peak.  Their issue though is they still have no supporting cast, or that special role player ALL championship teams need....Mavericks Win
Chicago Bulls @ LA Lakers
Derek Rose has single handedly made the Bulls relevant again.  His Supporting cast has been there longer but needed his incredible scoring ability to get over the hump.  Joahkim Noah has developed in to a decent C and Luol Deng is a perfect Pippen to Rose's Jordan.  The Lakers still have Kobe and now Gasol.  As long as Kobe plays the Lakers will be that good.  Lakers win
Orlando Magic @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Durant has become a bonafide superstar and Westbrook has been a great compliment.  I just dont think they have enough to stop Superman...Magic Win
LA Clippers @ Golden State Warriors
Fact is this game meant nothing until Chris Paul became a Clipper.  The "Other" team in LA may be more relevant now than they ever have.  Golden State just doesn't have the horses.  Blake Griffin shows that he may soon be the best player in the league...Clippers Win

What do you think?  Who are your picks....

Don't forget tomorrow we discuss the top 5 teams in each conference here at GOLDY's

NFL WEEK 15 IN REVIEW...

Most of NFL week 15 is in the books and WOW what a week it was....Perfection was stopped TWICE, the mile high messiah was stomped at home, Sexy Rexxy spouts off again and Drew Brees just made the MVP voting very interesting.

Here we gooooo....

Down goes Rodgers!  Down goes Rodgers!!!

The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers just found out that the 72 Dolphins and the 07 Patriots were really really good and that todays NFL is a mystery to EVERYONE.  Everyone, including your dear ol' tender, thought they would lose to the Lions on Thanksgiving.  Well maybe to the Bears will give them a run, nope.  Who knew it would be the MIGHTY Kansas City Chiefs fresh off of firing Todd Haley.  Romeo Crennel deserves a ton of credit here as he had his team ready and laid the blueprint to beating the almighty Pack!  Turns out it wasnt that hard...make GB defense stop you and relentlessly attack Aaron Rodgers!  It worked brilliantly and does this prove that head coaching in Cleveland is just a stopping point for winning somewhere else? (right Bill Bellichek).  The Pack lost 2 starting offensive lineman to injuries in this game and the question is can they rebound?  The answer is yes.  this is the hiccup the New England Patriots needed in 07.  A re-focus of sorts . God help the Bears next week
THE COLTS WON!? IIIIDDDIOTS!
The Tennessee Titans couldn't have dreamed this would happen. Dan "The Man" Orlovsky took it to the Titans defense with a Tebow-esque 82 yds passing and Donald Browns 161 Yds running attack that just blew through a typically stout Titans run defense. The Colts winning muddy's up the Andrew Luck sweepstakes with the lowly Rams and Vikings now nipping at their heals. I know you can't give up or throw in the towel early, but with Luck sitting there for the taking while Peyton is coming back, STOP WINNING INDY!!! You can not have a more perfect scenario, in my opinion, than drafting Luck to sit behind Peyton for at least 1 year. This allows Luck to learn from The Best and showcases Peyton as healthy for teams like the Redskins and Browns to bid on. Jim Caldwell should be fired in the Colts win out....
THE LORD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY, APPARENTLY TEBOW RESTED ON WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS SEVENTH WIN!
Jesus little bro was beaten by Satan's biggest payday(seriously, he's got the looks, the rings, the wife and the money how can he not have sold his soul) . I joke of course, Satan made more money on Hitler. Anyway, the Disney movie that is the Tebow story came back to reality, so we think. The Broncos faced a playoff caliber team with an elite QB and couldn't even come close to staying up. Now we could all be wrong and this could have been the obstacle in the Disney movie that the hero must overcome to reach the happy ending (not that the Denver V would enjoy a happy ending) . At this point though Tim Tebow better hope for a Bengals/ Jets draw in the playoffs because every other team will beat them as bad as yesterday.....
SEXXY REXXY DOESNT KNOW WHEN TO SHUT HIS FACE! Rex Ryan's Jets got smashed by the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday and yet he defended Santonio Holmes and his ridiculous penalty ( by the way it is always a good idea to taunt a team beating you by 3 scores MORON), and then has the nerve to spout off about beating the Giants next week and how he isn't going to be the "little brother"in NYC. I got news for you Rex, no one has ever thought of you as a "little" anything, and honestly your team is not as good as the injury plagued NY Giants. Eli is far better than the Dirty Sanchez and Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz hold on to the ball. Ahmad Bradshaw alone is better than either 2 backs the Jets have. At some point Woody Johnson is going to have to say enough is enough.
DREW BREES IS QUIETLY HAVING A REMARKABLE RECORD BREAKING SEASON.HOW IS THAT?
Someone tell Aaron Rodgers that he has nothing locked up anymore. Drew Brees lit up the Minnesota Vikings to the tune of 412 yes and 5 tds. He is now 375 yds shy of breaking Dan Marino's season passing yards record...WITH 2 GAMES TO GO!!!! He won't quite make it to Tammy Brady's TD record but his numbers compared to Rodgers are as follows (pct/yds/td/into)
Brees--- 71.5/4780/37/11
Rodgers--- 68.1/4360/40/6 What an MVP RACE IT WILL BE TO THE END. We can all only hope that the NFC championship game matches these 2 because NONE of us loses there!
WHO IS YOUR LEAGUE MVP? WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THE CRAZINESS OF THIS WEEK GAMES?
Later today....Looking at the NBA'S OPENING DAY GAMES.

WEEK 15 BREAKDOWN!

Welcome back to Da' Bar!  Been a couple of days but I have been doing some work on getting other topics lined up and restocking the bar.  Tonight I am laying out my Week 15 NFL picks after going 11-4 last week.  This week has some much tougher games to pick and some great story lines.....SO without further delay here we gooooo.....

Dolphins at Bills:

Tony "Soprano" Sporano's days as head football coach for the Miami Dolphins are over.  At least this way the owners told him to his face(I wonder if it was J-Lo or Marc Anthony who broke the news) instead of letting the media know they were looking for a replacement before firing him.  The Buffalo Bills keep trying to get back to the feel good story we thought they were at the beginning of the season, but they just cant get off the schneid.  Mental mistakes and a shaky at best defense have made Ryan Fitzpatricks job that much harder (Well that and Stevie Johnson dropping big time catches shooting his team in the....nevermind).  Interim Head Coaches and Matt Moore make it tough to lose though..Lets Go Buffalo!  Dolphins---17 Bills---27

Titans at Colts:

Andrew Luck's future team is just going to again prove Payton Manning is the MVP of the league and CJ2K may run for 2K tomorrow....Again, how no one is talking about Caldwell losing his job is beyond me.  Titans---20 Colts---6

Bengals at Rams:

The Cincinnati Bengals let a HUGE opportunity slip past them last week and they made Tyler Yates look like, well Tim Tebow.  They can not afford another let down to stay in the playoff hunt, but they get the good fortune to play the next head coachless team in the NFL, the St. Louis Rams.  I expect that Andy Dalton and AJ Green are going to have a HUGE day and St Louis will prove again that staying in LA was a good idea and that Spagnola is going to be fired.  Bengals---34 Rams---12

Redskins at Giants:

The Redskins go from bad to worse with each pass Rex Grossman leads.  They should have drafted Tebow and didnt.  Could Donovan McNabb have been this much worse...Even now I still couldnt say yes. The Giants are coming off a GREAT win against Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys to take the lead in the NFC East.  You are never quite sure though, which Giants team is going to show, and these NFC East games are usually pretty tight.  Hold your breath on this one ladies.....Redskins---16 Giants---13

Lions at Raiders:

It continues to be the story of 2 halves with the Lions.  Last week they looked like the early season Lions in teh first half, only to almost lose to Minnesota in the final seconds.  Da RRRRRRaidas miss Run DMC big time and Hue Jacksons team is falling apart mentally.  Carson Palmer needs to find a groove and that Raiders D that played so well early needs to come back to have a chance.  With that said, Megatron ahs been quite for a couple weeks and Kevin Smith is coming back.....Lions---38  Raiders---28

Jets at Eagles:

On paper this should be a no brainer for the Eagles, but as a once wise Kenny Mayne once said.."Games arent played on paper.  They are played in TV sets".  The NY Jets and Philadelphia Eagles should be a great game, but it wont be.  Both teams have played ugly football all year and need to play light years better down teh stretch to have a chance at the playoffs (Both foregone conclusions in the preseason).  Vick is back...The Jets D is slow and aging...the "Sanchize" is up and down, last week up this week way down.  Jets--17 Eagles---23

Seahawks at Bears:

The Bears D is angry to be the latest TEBOW Time victim, and the Seahawks could pay dearly.  Here's the issue though, Marshawn Lynch cant be tackled right now and the Bears STINK at tackling.  Seahawks---16 Bears---13

Packers at Chiefs:

Really any questions here?  Todd Haley is gone, the players are happy.  Then they look at game film and let out a collective..Shiiiiiitttt.  WITH Eric Berry they still barely have a chance and he aint playin.  The Pack takes another step towards perfection..Packers---41 Chiefs---17

Saints at Vikings:

Saints dont play another game during the regualr season outdoors, which is good for them during the regular season, but will hamper them in the playoffs because Green Bay doesn't have unseasonably warm 70 degree days in January.  The NFC spot in the Super Bowl runs through Title town and its miserable winter weather.  That said, this game should be a blowout and Drew Brees will continue the quietest record breaking season ever. (Somebody check that Nyquil bottle) Saints---38 Vikings---17

Panthers at Texans:

Tyler Yates will try to help the AFC South Champions welcome the Cam Newtons's to town.  Newton has been amazing but he has NO help what so ever.  I still gotta believe the Texans are gonna crash with Tyler Yates even after the masterful game winning drive he orchestrated last week.  Arian Foster seems to have hit some kind of wall....Panthers---24 Texans---21

Patriots at Broncos:

What will be the most watched game this weekend, Tammy Brady and the Patriots will travel to Denver to face the Mile High Messiah and try to end Tebow Time.  Tammy's problem though is the Denver D is shut down awesome and her D is 200+ yards away from the worst D EVER.  Combine all of that with the Tebow-mania running rampant in Denver, and the Patriots are in for probably their toughest test this year (so far).  Billy B however is a worlds better coach than any one Jesus' little brother has faced yet and he will not make teh same mistakes other teams made, which was letting up on the pressure.  I am a full fledged member to the Church of Tebow but The Disney Movie ends today...Patriots---23 Broncos--20

Browns at Cardinals:

The NFL throws in one of these each week.....The Game no one (even in Phoenix and Cleveland) cares about or will watch.....Browns---10 Cardinals---14

Ravens at Chargers:

The Chargers are finally playing good, but now they host the best team in the AFC. The Baltimore Ravens simply need to win the next 3 games to be the #1 seed in the AFC. They contriol their own destiny while the Chargers blew theirs with a terrible losing streak (Cementing the notion that Norv Turner is a bad head coach).  The Ravens will bring the pressure that causes Philip Rivers to make the mistakes he made earlier this year, and the Ravens will march out of San Diego (German for Whales Vagina in case you were wonder) winners.  Ravens---24 Chargers---13

Steelers at 49ers:

This should be a GREAT MNF game!  Wait Ben's ankle is not getting better?  James Harrison is suspended (more on that later tomorrow)?  That doesnt matter because this will stiull be a very good game.  The Steelers are a very very well coached team (Mike Tomlin is as good as it gets, IMO) and the Niners are pissed about their letdown last week vs teh Cardinals.  Frank Gore is a little banged up but I am guessing Jim Harbaugh called his brother for some pointers this week and that will be the difference.  Steelers---14 49ers---20

What do you think?  Disagree with my picks?  Lets hear it bar mates.......We ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!

TRIBUTE TO GRANDAD...

Today at Da Bar I would like to take an entry to pay tribute to the man who started the sports tradition in my family, my Grandad.  Today he would have turned 85 yrs old and no doubt would have been beaming with joy to see that his family of 8 children (5 boys, 3 girls)  has blossomed in to a family of over 100 members!

Born December 14th, 1926 to Henry and Julia,  Grandad grew to a lanky 6'3" man weighing about 190lbs.  He attended Mt St Josephs High School in Baltimore, where he was a baseball pitching standout.  Until recently there was a picture and small trophy case dedicated to him at the school.  He was so good in fact, he was signed in 1945 by the NY "baseball" Giants.  He was immediately sent to "D" level Erie Sailors. He played 2 seasons for the sailors before shoulder problems cut his career short.

Here are his stats from those 2 years.
 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=goldbe001gil

After his baseball career he met my grandmother and started what was the beginning of the family I know and love.  He was a salesman for Goodyear and did all he could to support his wife and 8 children.  Sports did not leave his mind though.  Grandad played in a mens fast pitch softball league (Pitcher naturally).  He was a "Baltimore Boy" and loved his Baltimore sports teams.  He loved the Orioles from the day they arrived in 1954, especially since baseball had been such a big part of his life.  Even more so though Grandad LOVED his Baltimore Colts.  He had season tickets and even kept a Colts Bobble Head a top the TV, but when the Colts played bad Grandad made the Bobblehead face the wall.

His sons all played sports growing up and their children would as well.  No one quite reaching the status or level of competition the ol' man did, even if in our slowpitch softball tournaments and league championships were pretty close.  I am sure he would have enjoyed every minute of his grandchildren playing and succeeding at their respective sports.

Alas he was taken too early from us in 1986 at the age of 59.  I was only 7 at the time and have verry little memory of him, but to this day I hear the stories and I see the lasting impact he made on his family over and over again.

Grandad we all miss you each day and I wish I could have spent more time with you talking sports like I do with my dad, your sons and grandsons now.  I can only imagine how you are reacting to each Ravens game, and what you must think of the state of our lowly O's.  Today the bar salutes you and lets you know that you were the beginning and inspiration of Goldy's.  Your High School Team photo will now forever sit as the sign to GOLDY's

Let all of us know about who started your sports world and who you talk with......

Weekend Review!

It was another great weekend in sports and there are many topics to cover so here we goooooo...

WWTD...

Tim Tebow did it again!!!  He was awful for 3 quarters and then he somehow finds a way to channel his inner most John Eway and bring the Denver Broncos back from another loss (Thanks in large part to Marion Barber).  Yes the Broncos D is phenomenal, but all anyone can focus on is the Mile High Messiah.  Has there ever been a player as mentally tough as the Christ Child?  No one believes he will win more than Tebow himself, and man does he love him some Jesus.  There comes a time where even the most synical atheist has to believe that maybe, just maybe there are some other forces involved to keep this moving.  Is Tim Tebow becoming this generations Fernando mania?  This quote alone proves it is BIGGER..."Chuck Norris wont play football with Tim Tebow"

Green Bay Packers Stay Perfect because the Raiders are AWFUL.

Aaron Rodgers, Mr Discount Double Check, wasnt his usual great self, Greg Jennings and Charles Woodson got hurt, and the Raiders are just a bad Football team.  Hue Jackson mortgaged the Raiders future for Carson Palmer and it really hasnt lived up to the trade.  The Cinncinati Bengals kept the right ginger it appears!  Can the Packers keep up the perfect season....I think so, but week 16 against the Detroit Lions, who are still fighting for a playoff birth, will be a tough challenge especially if those injuries linger.  Sit em and go win a Super Bowl Mike McCarthy....Just ask Tammy and Bill how they feel about going 16-0 and not winning a Super Bowl.

Milwaukee fans cant be happy....

I know as a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan what low feels like.....Milwaukee Brewers, although maybe not as low, are dealing with that low feeling right now.  The Prince isn't coming back, Casey Mgehee is gone and now NL MVP Ryan Braun is going to be suspended for failing a drug test.  HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE!!  If a minor leaguer gets busted...alright I get it.  But Braun failed a POSTSEASON test....He already ahd completed an MVP deserving regular season and got busted.  No excuse and just unbelievably disappointing.  I thought the Hebrew Hammer was better than that.  I also will add that I argued for weeks that I dont get Matt Kemp not winning the MVP over Braun.  Yes, Braun's team won their first division title since 1982, but Matt Kemp was unbeliveable.  He literally was days from winning the first Triple crown since Yaz's 1967 whopper.  He was 3rd in Batting, first in HR, RBI's, OPS and TB.  Add one more bullet to that gun...HE DOESNT CHEAT (that we know of)

Chris Paul is a Laker, Hornet, Clipper, Hornet....

This is why the NBA will always trail the other sports... Although I am intrigued by Blake "Kia Whore" Griffin and CP3 playing together....The NBA needs to find a way to get the New Orleans Hornets in the hands of people who know how to own a basketball team because Papp Stern is making everything look bad.  The abbreviated season that is about to happen should show the league that 82 games is too much.  Every season should start around Christmas and stay at 60-some games.  It will make the season relevant again, but only if Papp Stern and his band of merry idiots can stay out of their own way.
Here is a question you should think about. Is David Stern a genius?  Is he causing these trade issues and news to keep the NBA relevant in the public eye?  He headed the PR machine that was the NBA atop all sports in the late 80's-early 90's.  Just a thought.....

What did you think about this weekend and these topics?  Comment and follow da bar!

Your Tender...

NFL WEEK 14 BREAKDOWN

Here is this weeks NFL breakdown.....

Saints at Titans:

CJ2K is FINALLY coming back to life and the Tennessee Titans are playing very good football on both sides of the.  Their issue, however, is that the best QB (Sorry Discount Double Check) in the NFL, Drew Brees, is coming to town and is looking to keep his record SHATTERING season on pace.  Can the Titans keep CJ2K at 5.7 YPC to keep that Saints offense off the field?  I do not think so....Saints---31 Titans---17

Colts at Ravens:

Not much to say here.  The Indiannapolis Colts are 0-12 and are starting Dan Orlovsky.....yep Dan Orlovsky.  The Baltimore Ravens are the best team in the AFC, and after dismantling the lowly Cleveland Browns last week, look to have turned the page on losing to bad football teams (not to mention they just arent losing at home 6-0 this year 9-1 over teh last 2 years).  Shouldn't be close as the the Ravens will improve to 3-9 vs the Colts in the Manning era (I know he isnt playing but who cares)... Colts---10 Ravens---38.

Chiefs at Jets:

The NY Jets are finding ways to win (it helps when other teams give you wins too, Washington Redskins I am talking to you).  The Chiefs are the "little engine that kinda could"...Just not enough to beat the meteocre Jets and Palko vs Dirty Sanchez is like the undercard fights they dont show on the PPV...  Chiefs---13 Jets---17

Vikings at Lions:

The Vikings are bad..really bad.  AP is hurt and so is the rest of the offense.  Christian Ponder needs to be thankful that Blaine Gabbert was in the same draft class, otherwise he would be the one being called the bust.  He has had flashes of being pretty good and injuries have hurt his growth, but with that nasty Lions D coming to town, I would expect a return of the early season Lions Dominance.  Matthew Stafford and Mega Tron (aka The Greatest Receiver in the world) will return to Fantasy greatness and lead me to the finals...oh sorry got a little excited there.  Detroit Rock City is back...Vikings---7 Lions---38

Texans at Bengals:

This could have been the best game of the week, and it would have been with Schaub and Johnson healthy.  Now though the Houston Texans need to find a way to beat this years surprise, the Cinncinati Bengals, with Tyler (seriously I did play in college guys) Yates and no Johnson.  The Bengals run D, in keeping with AFC North tradition, is superperb and Arian Foster may not be much of a factor.  That measn the Texans will HAVE to rely on Tyler Yates, which now makes the prediction easy...Texans---20 Bengals--27

Buccaneers at Jaguars:

No one will even show up at the stadium in Jacksonville for this game to matter.  Break out the seat tarps JAX, SNOREFEST ALERT!!...Buccaneers---17 Jax---7

Falcons at Panthers:

The Atlanta Falcons are an enigma this year.  They show flashes of last years NFC #1 seed, but then play like a middle of the pack team in other games.  Matt Ryan needs to step up and manage the game better.  Cam Newton is Offensive ROY, and should receive MVP votes.  Watch out Falcons...Falcons---24 Panthers---28

Eagles at Dolphins:

The Philadelphia Eagles are underachievers and the Dolphins are overacheivers.  Tony Sporano has found a way to make Reggie Bush relevant again and has his team playing above its heads for him.  Andy Reid however cant make Desean Jackson happy, but does have Vick returning.  His decision to make an O-line coach his defensive coordinator was a terrible decision.  With that said though both streaks end today...Eagles---30 Dolphins---28

Patriots at Redskins:

Rob Grankowski is having a phenomenal year for the Pats and the Washington Redskins just are not very good.  Rex Grossman inconsistencies mean he will have a strong day because he had a bad day last week and the New England Patriots Defense is that bad.  Washington's D is up and down and "Tammy" Brady will throw for a ton today.  Sorry skins fans, but avert your eyes today...Patriots---34 Redskins---20

49ers at Cardinals:

The 49ers have won the division but I do not believe Hulk Hogans little, brother Jim Harbaugh will let up.  The Cardinals wasted a lot of resources on Kevin Corn Kolb, and left that D depleted.  Patrick Peterson will return another punt I am sure to do his best Devon Hester impression but it doesnt matter...49ers---20 Cardinals---10

Bears at Broncos:

I only need to say one thing...JESUS' LITTLE BRO TIMMY T. WILL NOT LOSE SO CLOSE TO HIS BIG BRO'S BDAY!  Bears---13 Broncos---18

Bills at Chargers:

Can someone please help the Bills.  Is there anyone who wasnt happy they started so hot?  Ryan Fitzpatrick is a likeable bearded Harvard Grad (not too many that are likeable) and Stevie Johnson is entertaining when he is not dropping game winning passes.  Philip Rivers has to be hurt, and Norv Turner has taken this year to PROVE he is a turrible head coach.  Bills---14 Chargers---24

Raiders at Packers:

At the beginning of the year we would have all passed this game up.  Today I think this could be the best game of the day.  Mr Discount Double Check is havin possibly the most accurate season anyone has EVER seen.  Hue Jackson deserves a COY nod, but unfortuantely it aint in the cards, especially at Lambeau....Raiders---23 Packers---30

Giants at Cowboys:

Can anyone stop Tony Romo?  Yep Only Tony Romo, the Giants and Jason Garrett.  1 week after Ice your own kicker-gate, the Dallas Cowboys can come out firing.  The NY Giants need to stop the bleeding since they have given the division lead away.  Eli has quietly been an MVP candidate (Still in Peytons shadow though since Peyton is still more deserving and hasnt played..ha)....Giants---28 Cowboys--27

Monday night Football:

Rams at Seahawks:

This game is awful and I am sure even Ron Jaworski wants to call in sick.....Rams---13 Seahawks---16

WOW What a DAY!! NBA Edition

Well we have even more to cover thanks to teh NBA yesterday.  Chris Paul is traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Mr Khloe Kardashian and Pau Gasol...OH WAIT Pappa Stern said No...Oh wait someone didnt remeber the Hornets are owned by the league...AND Dan Gilbert is ANGRY again..AAAND this is fresh off a lockout that could bury the league...GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Here we go! Topic 2...What is the NBA going to do to shoot themselves..not a plaxico reference...in the foot next?

Chris Paul wants out of New Orleans and the Lakers, Celtics and Knicks want him.  Dwight Howard wants out of Orlando and the NJ Nets, Lakers and Bulls want him, but becasue the owners realized that teh reason for teh lockout was never actually resolved, they are now gonna play tough guys and block these trades.

The Chris Paul trade was actually fair to all teams involved.  Houston was getting Gasol to replace recently retired Yao Ming, the hornets got a ton back to re-build with and a side show piece in Lamar Kardashian.  Is it really that enraging (apparently is to Dan Gilbert, and by the way is there a bigger child than him owning a pro frachise right now?) that the Lakers traded for a point guard after they failed to get to the Finals?  The answer is no...Pappa Stern stated they wanted to end this players deciding where they wanted to go phenomenon, which oh by the way was what was the start of the lockout.  How come he didnt stop the incomprable Shane Battier from "choosing" the Heat..they already have LBJ, D-wade and Chris 3rd wheel Bosh.  Its because the Lakers are a large market team and Kobe is THE star.  The owners F-ed up the negotiations they started in the first place and now they are realizing they gave in too much..BOOHOO fellas!

Dwight Howards deal can not happen now. Even though the Nets have offered an incredibly fair deal (I love how the NBA teams treat 1st rd picks like halloween candy and the NFL treats them like Gold bars) it cannot happen because Dwight said he wants to go there.  Pappa Stern has set and ugly precedent that he must uphold.

The Lockout has all but destroyed the league and now this is just the crap flavored icing on top of the garbage flavored cake for the NBA.  Rising stars like Derek Rose, Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant will have a hard time growing their legacy when the league cant get out of its own way.

What do you think about the NBA fiasco?  Lets here it....

WOW What a Day! MLB Edition

WOW what a day yesterday was in the sports world.  Okay honestly it was quite a day for the LA sports world, but it did have a large ripple effect across the country.  In this post we will cover the MLB moves and the end of the win...honestly we are just going to discuss the Angels because yesterday was insane. So Saddle up to the bar and lets hear what you think...

My opinion is that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Orange County from California, were uncharacteristicly reckless with the Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson deals.  Albert got a 10yr $254 Million deal AND a no trade clause!  The second part alone is why he isnt in South Beach.  I applaud the Marlins for standing pat on that issue, now that issue will also remove them from the Prince Fielder sweepstakes but I do not think they need him.  Albert is going to be making upwards of $27 million as a 41 year old DH.  That is just not good business, especially if they do not win a world series (They wont because I believe they are still the second best team in the division behind Texas) in the first 4 years of this deal.  You will then be stuck with an aging Pujols (That elbow will flare up again because HGH injections hurt, right A-rod), no world series and Jered Weaver set to come off his deal.  No Trade clauses are stupid and irresponsible.  Who gives a crap who is paying you your guaranteed contract 6 years in when you cant play the field!  Now I agree that these next 2-3 years they will have the best hitter on the PLANET in their lineup and Albert is going to become an even BIGGER star in LaLa land, but they are banking on Trumbo being as good as his rookie season finished and OLD Torii Hunter still playing at a high level.
Now on to CJ Wilson's 5 yr $75 million contract.  You just paid a pitcher who has only been a starter for 2 years (granted last years 2.53 ERA is stellar) and has lost every postseason game he has pitched number 1 starter money...TO BE YOUR NUMBER 3 starter.  As my man Keyshawn would say...C'MON MAAAN!  CJ wilson, in my opinion, was the second best starter available.  Mark Buerhle was the best and signed with the right club I believe, but was once agan passed to the side for a shiny new toy in young CJ Wilson.   He is not better than Jared Weaver by a LOOOOONG shot and is equivalent or slightly below Dan Haren.  Does he make their rotation nasty? Hell yeah, especially if Ervin Santana has really figured his stuff out as a number 4.  This might rival that Philadephia Phillies rotation they have assembled, but even the cash happy Phils havent given Cole Hamels a CJ Wilson like contract and Hamels is probably better (not to mention was the key to the Phillies World Series win a few years ago).  Look at it this way CJ wilson is a hometown kid that will fit in with his mop top hair do and unshaven face, but in the end that contract makes no sense.  New Angels GM Jerry Dipoto must have gotten so overwehlmed leaving cash strapped Arizona for those huge cash chucking LA Angels of Anaheim OC.....yeah I heard it and it doesnt sound right either..
Dipoto is clearly a win now and worry about being broke later GM, which is probably why he was on everyones list as the top GM candidate and proving it now.  (Another kick in the nuts for us Oriole fans) He was able to pull The HGH Machine from his longtime, WORLD SERIES CHAMPION home and convinced CJ sloppy hair to come home in 48 hrs.  Are we seeing the making of the next Theo or are we seeing the next Roland Hemond (Orioles GM through the shit late 80's early 90's )?  Only 10 years and $254 mill later will tell.

What do you think of the Angels contracts?  Foolish, smart?  What do you think of new GM Jerry DiPoto?

MLB Winter meetings

Alright patrons of ye old bar...here is our next topic.  The winter meetings (baseballs annual trade show) are in full swing and business is booming!  Jose Reyes has officially become the newest member of the Miami heat, and has been tol....what...oh yeah sorry the Miami MARLINS, sorry!  He has been told that he will need to cut his hair by owner Jeff Loria.  I guess that means Troy Palamalu can't ever be a Marlin ( what would Head and Shoulders say!!) .  Anyway here are a few more story lines coming out of the meeetings.
The machine is going to make ALLLOOOOTTT of money as a 42 yr old baseball player......
Albert Pujols has been offered 10 yrs and roughly $220 million from both the Heat, I mean Marlins, and Cardinals.  Apparently there are reports that the Cubs are involved, but I think that is a long shot to happen.  Pujols wanted a no trade clause put in to the contract and that was a sticking point for the Marlins, as that goes against team policy (see Jose Reyes Hair).  The Marlins are pushing to get the deal done like,YESTERDAY, but I think Albert's heartstrings are being tugged by StL.  MY TAKE:  The Machine will get his payday and ultimately he is gonna be a South Beach resident when all is said and done.
Prince is playing second fiddle to a Machine......
The next biggest free agent (literally, he's a big boy) is Prince Fielder.  He is clearly in a holding pattern as he awaits Albert's deal to finish.  Leaders in to the clubhouse on Prince are the Mariners, Cubs and Blue Jays.  The Jays will not go beyond 5 yrs, which eliminates them.  Theo and the Cubbies have the money and the attraction after Pena denied arbitration.  The Mariners might be the most excited and do the most work to get Fielder as an upgrade over Justin Smoak.   The issue there could be the thought of 81 games in the worst power hitters park in baseball.  Fielder is looking for a 7 year deal worth roughly $200 million and will get it. Fielder is not as good a 1b as pujols but is younger and has recently avg more games per year and RBI's. MY TAKE: Prince ends up with neither. My guess is another team comes in to swoop him away. The Orioles (yes this is blatant dreaming and fan stupidity on my part) or Cards could do it, especially if cards lose pujols. I am going to go with the angels though as the team to take on the Prince.
Yankees make no noise...then some noise.......
Brian Cashman has recently been very aggressive at these meetings, because the Yanks had money to spend. Fact of the matter is they are tied up by A rod's deal and re-upping Sabbathia. The other point they are making is that they will not give up there coveted prospects. WHO ARE THESE YANKEES!? Cash an has a death grip on Nunez, Montero and Nova. Then today they let out they are listening to offers for Burnett AND are willing to eat some salary. Original figures are they will eat $8 million, not enough for a guy who has 4 innings a game in him and was just flat out awful this year. That is a jumping off point though. The Yankees are willing to listen and move Burnett because he needs to get out of NY. MY TAKE: Burnett needs a change of scenery for sure. No matter what Joe Girardi says, the 2 of them do not get along. I think Burnett is valuable in the right situation and could be a big help as a 2 or 3 for a good team. Don't be surprised if the Angels, Orioles, Rockies and Rangers make a run at him and land him.
So tell me, where do you think these guys land? (My pick next to them) Pujols---Miami Prince---Angels C.J. Wilson--Rangers Buerhle---Rangers Who else are you watching?

LETS GET STARTED!

Alright Bar mates here is my first topic of discussion...

Can the Miami Marlins do what the Miami Heat, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles couldn't do, and win a  championship by buying the best FREE agents and collecting them in one spot?

My take..NOT A CHANCE!  Yes the Yankees and the Celtics were able to do it recently, but I honestly believe they had a better blueprint than the rest do.  Yes they signed Jose Reyes, and pissed off their Organizational leader Hanley Ramirez...Strike 1.  Yes they signed Heath Bell, Great closer, but you gotta have someone other than Josh Johnson in the rotation to keep you in the game to get to him...Strike 2.  Does "The Machine" decide he will also take his talents to South Beach after the most recent upped offer of 10 yrs?  Maybe but how will he react to having to sit in a dugout with Ozzie Guillen for 162 games,  I smell trouble there...Strike 2.5.  All that Latino heat will fit well in Miami and I applaud what they are trying to do (If only some other small market teams tried this..Cough cough...Baltimore/Kansas City..cough cough), but the proof is right in the proverbial pudding.  TEAM CHEMISTRY matters!!  Look at the Eagles and Heat. Wrong configuration all together.  Look at the Yankees and Celtics Bought big talent in areas they needed it and surrounded them with the perfect role players......The Miami Marlins have no chance of surrounding any of those guys with any quality Starting pitching because they blew their load on 3 guys.  Gabby Sanchez is a very very good 1b with decent power, and Mike Stanton is a star in the making with his pure power.  If "The Machine' signs in South Beach it will be a post season nightmare that the city of Miami has seen before, Just ask Lebron...

What do you think?
