THE QB CHRONICLES

This week has been Peyton Manning week in America and the are no shortages of stories and teams wanting the legend, who was officially cut Thursday morning from the Colts.  The fact is the Colts had NO CHOICE but to do this.  Colts fans are upset, traditionalists are upset, but the simple fact is that Bob Irsay could not in good conscience pay $28million to a guy who just had 4 neck surgeries in a year and turns 36 next month.  I understand people being upset as it is tough to understand cutting, in my opinion, the greatest QB to play the game.  Again, this just proves how the business of the NFL has taken over.
The other part of the decision process is that the Colts also will be able to take the most promising, and highest scoring, QB prospect since John Elway with the first overall pick in Aprils draft. Andrew Luck is a dream for anyone with the first overall pick, and gives this organization the chance to have 2 legendary QB's for 30 straight years.  It is hard to call Luck a potential legend since he hasn't played a single down, but EVERYONE can't be wrong. He as unbeliveably athletic (ran the same 40 time as Can Newton, and did so with a knee brace), is able to read defenses at a pro level already, studies film like Peyton and is just as accurate.  This is a no brainer for the Colts, especially since they have a new front office, new head coach, and a roster that is turning over.
Now back to the "Man"ning of the week.  Where he will land is even more news worthy than him being cut.  Like Joe Montana, when the niners had to make the same decision with him and Steve Young, there are plenty of suitors but only a few of them have a real shot..

Her are some potential suitors and where I think he lands....

Buffalo Bills

Yes they just paid Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they are a young team that showed early last year they are very competitive and honestly would be instantly a playoff team with a healthy Peyton.  The reason they will not get him though is that 36yr old dome qb's don't want to play 8 games in Buffalo snow storms.  At the same time the Bills are not going to spend that kind of money twice.

New York Jets

They just signed Sanchez to an extension so this isn't going to happen, and that just sealed Sexy Rexy's toe loving fate.  He is going to ride the Sanchize straight to the unemployment line.  Peyton would have been a perfect fit to this team and would have been the best story all year..."Which Manning is REALLY King of New York?"  I am not sure that Peyton and Rex could co-exist but it isn't impossible to think they may have actually worked well together.  The Jets will never know now....

Houston Texans

This team is soooo good right now with Matt Schaub, but if they were able to find the right trade partner for Schaub (he would pull a 1st rd haul for sure) and sign Peyton, they would honestly become the favorite in the AFC to go to the Super Bowl. A healthy Peyton would take this team to an offensive level they have been trying to get to and would be almost impossible to stop.  Peyton would have the big WR in Andre Johnson, and his ever important TE in Owen Daniels.  The rest of the NFL better hope this doesn't happen....

Denver Broncos

They have a Super Bowl ready D and a very good young WR corp, oh and they have about $40 mill to spend to fill in around Peyton.  Yes this would interrupt the Disney movie known as Timmy Tebow, but even Jesus would agree that Peyton should replace the christ child as starter.  Timmy T would benefit more than any other QB to learn from the greatest.  They also have probably the best pitch man for winning in your 30's in president John Elway, who if you remember was a pretty OK QB in his 30's.

Kansas City Chiefs

This team has Kyle Or ton adn Matt Cassel.  That alone tells you why they are a good fit.  Its where Cool Joe Montana went and they are also only a year removed from the playoffs.  This team has a very good defense (Eric berry will be back), 2 stud young receivers and Jamaal Charles as their running back.  All the pieces are there, but can they sell him on November and December KC weather.  This team is my second choice for Peyton

Miami Dolphins/Arizona Cardinals

These 2 teams are  the leaders in the clubhouse I think.  The dolphins are where he has a home, they have Brandon Marshall, a ton of money to spend and the market to promote Peyton.  The Cardinals have amazing special teams, Peytons first offensive coordinator, a pretty good D, oh and some guy named Larry Fitzgerald.  Peyton chooses between these 2 ultimately, and I think he ends up in the Arizona desert with an All World WR, and the Cardinals then will be able to trade Kolb for draft picks.

What do you think?

  1. I really think Peyton wants to stay in the AFC so he's not in the way of little bro getting to the Super Bowl. Miami has a new head coach and his offensive philosophy is not a match with what Peyton likes to do. The question is does a first time head coach want to go away from everything he believes in? He may not have a choice as I'm pretty sure it's the owners call. Houston would be perfect and I have heard speculation that the reason they signed Foster to a long term deal(he was a restricted FA and could have been tendered) and the reason they didn't franchise Mario Williams was to have alot of cap room to go after Manning. I'm sure if Houston wants to go after Manning they would probably not want Schaub to know about it in case the deal doesn't happen. The only problem is Manning and Schaub have the same agent. I'll say Denver and Peyton will be able to recruit several FA's as the Broncos are $40 million under the cap

  2. James I really didn't want to pick Houston based on the fact that what you said is exactly right. I think Schaub is getting shopped as we speak. Which could also lead to them reloading. If he goes to Denver I think Dallas Clark is right behind him...

  3. My feeling is Miami since Ross wants butts in the seats and is probably your next Dan Snyder/ Jerry jones type owner. I'm hoping he goes to Denver just to see how Timmy deals with it. If manning ends up in Denver watch out I'd put money on Tebow bring traded to Jacksonville. Khan wants those tarps off the seats and what better way to do that than bringing the golden boy home. If that does happen than Philbin gets his wish and Flynn ends up in Miami. Tannehill ends up in Cleveland and Weedon ends up in Seattle.
